Time-boxing and why it works

Productivity research consistently supports time-boxing, dividing work into fixed intervals with scheduled breaks, as one of the most effective ways to reduce procrastination, manage mental fatigue and sustain concentration across a working day. A browser-based timer is often the most practical implementation: no app to install, no account to create, always available wherever you have a browser.

The Pomodoro Technique

Developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s, the Pomodoro Technique breaks work into focused intervals, typically 25 minutes, separated by short breaks, with a longer break every four cycles. The structure addresses two common obstacles: starting a task (a short, defined interval feels less daunting than an open-ended session) and knowing when to stop (scheduled breaks prevent burnout without relying on willpower alone). The 25/5/15 defaults are a starting point, interval lengths are fully adjustable.

What daily session tracking shows

Counting completed focus intervals across a working day gives a concrete productivity signal without requiring a full task management system. A typical productive day at knowledge work involves four to six deep focus intervals, most people find this number lower than expected and use it as a calibration point. The count resets at midnight so each day starts fresh.

Focus data stays on your device

Session counts and custom interval lengths are saved locally in your browser. They persist across visits but never leave your device. No focus logs, task names or usage data are ever sent to PureTools or any other service. The timer works offline after the first visit.
